The HBS Retail and Luxury Goods Club welcomes representatives from across the community to share in the learning process with HBS students. In the past, companies have interacted with students in a number of ways, including:

Speaker events, Conferences and Club Treks: Topics of discussion have included – navigating company strategies through unexpected challenges, developing unique value propositions for customers, and new trends in retail. We are open to a number of topics!

Field Studies: Field studies provide second-year HBS students with the opportunity to apply their skills to the real-world challenges facing organizations while they earn academic credit. Under faculty supervision, students work on a project of strategic importance to the organization and report its recommendations at the end of the term. Students are expected to conduct research in the field, carry out thoughtful analyses, prepare a report, and make a final presentation – supported by concrete findings and recommendations – to the supervising faculty and, if appropriate, the sponsoring organization.

  • Students initiate field study opportunities at the start of each semester [late August, late January] and work on them over the course of 15 weeks for class credit. Topics range widely and are shaped by both the company and the student.
  • Examples this year included: Daily Candy, Gucci, Shop It to Me, and Rue La La
